In today’s world, it’s easy to get down about the state of things. We have an abundance of corrupt and feckless leaders. I won’t name names. We all know who the worst culprits are. The Amazon is being destroyed at an alarming rate, the ocean is full of plastic waste and the Great Barrier Reef was recently downgraded to very poor. People are fleeing their homes because of war, violence, extreme poverty, oppression, climate change, you name it. And there’s just so much hate. It isn’t a pretty picture.
We all try and do our part to make the world a better place, but the task is daunting, and it can be discouraging. One step forward, fifty steps back.
One thing we can all do: smile more. You might not always feel like it, but it can make a difference and it’ll brighten your day too.
Smile to the person cleaning the public restroom, the maid who cleans your hotel room, the cashier at the convenience store, the garbage man, the gate agent who just informed you your flight will be delayed another hour, the quiet busboy at your favorite restaurant, the nurse who draws your blood and makes you step on the scale, your kid’s teacher, your bus driver, the person who cut you off in traffic.
In this world we live in, the least we can do is be kind to the people around us, no matter who they are, where they came from, or what their politics are.
